Office building An der Alster 1 became a vibrant hub for AppLike
One of the world's fastest-growing app platforms requires a dynamic space. With its sculptural form and distinctive facade, the building offered a canvas full of possibilities that BAID Architects, led by Jessica Borchardt, transformed into a workspace to reflect the dynamic, global spirit of AppLike.
SKENA: The luminaire without compromises
The redesign was not just about walls and furniture, but about lighting solutions too. In collaboration with Zumtobel, Borchardt developed SKENA, a signature luminaire from the Editions series. Technically advanced yet visually unobtrusive, SKENA brings balance, clarity and comfort to 70 workstations, subtly enhancing the space without overwhelming it.
An open, flexible and profoundly human workspace
With colour palettes inspired by industrial tones – Patina, Petrol and Oxide – and lighting that highlights the distinctive geometry of the building, the new AppLike office is more than just a renovation. It narrates the story of how architecture, design and lighting come together to shape identity, foster creativity and support our current work practices.
