Modernisation through light: 160 Tooley Street is now shining bright
The office spaces at Southwark Council in London were refitted with state-of-the-art LED technology from Zumtobel after more than 12 years. The goal of the project was to efficiently bring the existing lighting infrastructure up to date, continuing to harness systems like the TECTON trunking, while simultaneously enhancing comfort, sustainability and future technical viability — without the need for extensive rewiring. The renovation also had to be seamlessly integrated into the existing architecture.
Smart lighting solutions for efficiency and comfort
Zumtobel relied on a well-thought-out lighting design with an optimal interplay of direct and indirect light, glare-free illumination and flexible installation options. Custom-made LINCOR luminaires were attuned with existing FREELINE suspensions. The combination of ED-SENS mini sensors, integrated emergency lighting and modern lighting management in the form of LITENET ensures maximum user comfort, while simultaneously reducing energy consumption.
Variety of premium luminaires for every area
The products used include SLOTLIGHT infinity, MELLOW LIGHT infinity, PANOS infinity, LINARIA, LINETIK, VIVO and RESCLITE PRO. The luminaires offer excellent light quality, a long lifespan and a uniform design. Highlights include a 60m long continuous row of SLOTLIGHT luminaires on the fifth floor and precise workplace lighting with LINETIK free-standing luminaires. LINARIA and VIVO provide stylish and efficient accent lighting in corridors and transitional areas.
Technology & sustainability through system integration
Instead of completely replacing existing hardware, the proven TECTON trunking system was deployed and equipped with new modules – a sustainable solution that saves on resources. With the modernisation that the LITENET system brought, the building has been transformed into one that is equipped for digital services such as energy and CO₂ tracking, room usage evaluations and climate data analysis. The focus was clearly on efficiency, environmental awareness and smart future technology – achieved even without tailored products.
